THE BIKE

FERA proposals combine asphalt and dirt. A diverse and not always comfortable terrain, a journey between valleys and mountains.

The routes can be undertaken with whatever type of off-road bicycle is deemed suitable, preferably self-propelled and without motor assistance.

From the beginning, we have designed the routes with gravel bikes, and we conceive them to be as comfortable as possible for rigid bikes.

We understand gravel bikes as adventure bicycles that allow progress over all kinds of terrain and escape overspecialization.

It is necessary to study the different proposals and adapt the bicycle to the specific needs.

In general, we advise:

  • A gear ratio (chainring and cassette) that allows tackling steep climbs comfortably.

  • Mixed tread tires with a width greater than 40mm.

  • A thorough check of the bicycle before starting the route. The brakes must be in optimal condition to handle the long descents.

SAFETY GEAR

  • Lights and reflective elements: FERA takes place on roads and tracks used by other vehicles, it is necessary to take all the necessary safety measures to make us visible.

It is mandatory to use a light (front and rear) and a reflective elements to cross the Vielha Tunnel.

  • Warm clothes: FERA travels through high mountain areas where the weather is changeable and can be very adverse at any time of the year. We recommend raincoat and warm clothes.

  • Repair gear: Many sections are far from service centers and workshops. We recommend bringing the basic repair material.

SPECIFIC MATERIAL

The various FERA proposals are demanding and may require specific equipment.

Preparing your gear is a key factor for successfully completing some of the routes.

In all cases, we recommend keeping luggage to a minimum, while always maintaining all necessary safety elements for a high mountain route.
